An instrument known as keratometer is used to gauge the curvature of the eye surface and the clear front surface (cornea). These gives the doctor to gauge the best curved and sized contact lens that may fit the individual.

To determine the eye dryness of the individual a test called tear film evaluation is considered. The eye’s moistures plays an important role how the contact lens fits the individual, so a fluorescein dye is placed in the eyes of the patient with eye drops and seen how long it take for the dye to wash away by the tears produced by the eyes, if there is not enough production of the tears in the eyes then contact lens may be a lesser option. Instead a silicone hydrogel material may work better for the dry eyes.

This happens in about 2 clinical visits for the assessment to complete. Then the determined set of contact lens are ordered and given to the patient. Then the patient needs an annual eye checkups to monitor the health of the eyes.

The cornea also has to be examined for the contact lens placement, cornea is examined using biomicroscope. A magnification of the eye and thus the cornea is performed by this instrument which gives the detailed view of the eye and the corneal surface and provides a baseline and thus evaluate the fit of the lenses. This is important because it allows the doctor to observe alignment of the lens as it rests on the surface of your eye and how much the lens moves after each blink to make sure that the fit is correct.

Once these basic procedures are performed for the best contact lens size and measurements prescription is written by the doctor, this prescription will determine the contact lens size, curvature, type, power and all other features it should have which exactly matches the surface of your eye.

Corrects the vision and have both cosmetic and therapeutic advantages over the normal spectacles. Cosmetic reason may be as the individual may need to avoid the spectacles and does not want to change the overall appearance of the individual by wearing glasses.

The one more clinical advantage being for the patients with keratoconus and aniseikonia and such conditions where contact lenses are preferred than the normal glasses.

They provide good peripheral vision than normal glasses, meaning that the side vision is better in contact glasses other than providing near sightedness and farsightedness correction.

The contact lenses do not collect moisture from rain, snow, condensation, or perspiration, so they are more preferable to sports activity and other outdoor activity.

Other eye gears like sunglasses or goggles can be worn with these contact lens on top of the eye as contact lens do not interfere with these.

Contact lens come in all forms and functionality, which could depend on eye condition, the lifestyle or the condition of work, or the ease of use factors determine the contact lens type.
